We at Matchbox360 have always tried to provide our members with the best things we can offer. The best forum, the best tournaments and the best news. It was in this spirit that Sub and I decided to create an online games magazine called Ignition just over a year ago. Our goal was to provide the community with the best free games magazine we could, created by gamers, for gamers; without all those pesky adverts and without the influence of a games company.
Stewart and I worked really hard on this project and we started getting great feedback from other journalist, games companies and people who just read the magazine. Unfortunately, with the magazine generating no revenue, and with our own lives becoming extremely busy, we are unable to continue with Ignition. This might not come as a huge shock as it has been several months without an issue or even an update.
We always did the best we could with the resources we had available, we knew it was never perfect but we tried not only to push the boundaries of what we could do visually but journalistically as well. The writing team did a great job ever since the first issue and I would like to thank everyone who contributed to Ignition.
We have tried to prevent this from happening, we looked at getting assistant editors, a new designer; but at the end of the day, we felt that it would only do an injustice to what we have achieved since launch. We can no longer provide a service which we think is up to the standard you, our community, deserve; so we’ve decided to call it a day. I would like to thank everyone who read Ignition, everyone who helped in the production and everyone who supported us. The following people are those who contributed articles to Ignition and I would like to thank:
Stewart Bradford - SubDivid3r
Jamie Loader - The Meanmachine
Jonny Morgan - Pie In The Sky
Andrew Costello - mR jun7ao
Ben J - Cornish Piskie
Ryan Hughes - zFury
Dan Gaskin - Khz Gaskin
Luke Newcombe - Duke Nuke76
Stephen Gradwell - Killarapp
Luke Willingham - Lukant 23
Andy Broth - RaolainVizsral
Cat Fuellsak - Fear the Cat
But don’t count us out, we may return in the future but for now we can no longer continue with Ignition. The flame might be going out for now, but it can always be re-ignited.
Ok, so you may have noticed Ignition Issue 9 hasn’t been posted yet. Yeah that’s because it’s not finished yet. We at Ignition don’t like to show you what we’ve done unless it’s perfect and because we only have a small team; it’s hard for us to produce a magazine every month. We try our best, but it’s just a bit difficult sometimes.
Rest assured we will be back next month with a big issue. But if you would like to write for Ignition, why not head over to our jobs page and see if there is a position on our team for you. We are a small, friendly team and we do our best to make the online community even better, by providing great game previews and reviews.
So I’ll see you all in a month.
Issue 8 is out (for the second time today… oops!) so head this way to get it.
Issue 8 will now be out on the 14th of February, instead of January, a few reasons for this but most revolve around time conflicts with various members of staff and day to day work, don’t worry though, we will be back in style next month with a bumper issue to make up for it.
As you can see by the big banner above (assuming you aren’t using an RSS reader) Issue 7 is out now, it’s been a long day getting everything put together but it’s finally up.
Oh and it’s got a brand new design, there are still bits and pieces of the new design which didn’t make it in time however they will be there come January’s issue.
That’s all from me for now, I’m going to go and pass out, remember to post in our forums, leave comments (don’t need to register to do that!) or email us.
